Project #5: Color and Shape Jelly Monoprints

This project here is a color and shape jelly block monoprint, which involves spreading ink on the surface with a brayer and pallet knife, spreading a base layer of color before using shapes made out of black construction paper to block the ink applying to the paper in order to reverse construct a multi layered pattern on thicker card stock. We also at the same time learned about color theory and the color wheel, which included primary colors such as red, blue, and yellow, and secondary colors such as green, purple and orange. We also learned about the differences between a shade and a hue, and different color schemes that were appealing to the eye and to the viewer's tastes. For my project, I decided to go with an analogous color scheme, which is using colors that are right next to each other on the color wheel. I chose this because I wanted to go with a more nature like color scheme that was harmonious and pleasing to the eye. The name of my art, "1001 leagues in the foliage", is based off of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne, but I downsized the name because it is a smaller octopus of sorts and in a more green, forest like environment.
